North Branch (Main) Turf Farm

   Just an hour north of the Twin Cites in North Branch, MN our main farm is ideally located to service central Minnesota and western Wisconsin.  Located in North Branch’s Pleasant Valley this farm is built on an ancient riverbed. The ancient river collected Minnesota's most fertile soil and placed it onto the sandy river bottom of Pleasant Valley.  When the river dried it left flat ground with good drainage to support some of the nation’s best growing sod.
   After 20 years of farming in North Branch, Central Turf Farms has crowned the land for drainage into a system of ditches. The ditches also supply the farm with an adequate water supply for irrigating. This allows Central Turf Farms the luxury of bragging that dormant sod is never shipped.

   The ditches also segment the peaty soil from the sandy river bottom that is exposed in a few areas. Some fields are low and peaty for perfect Hybrid Kentucky Bluegrass sod that is both quick to grow and light to lay. Other fields are made of a sandy loam soil excellent for light and tough mineral sod.
Both mineral and peat sod is cut to our standard 1.5 square yard roll or bigroll sod.  Everything cut fresh everyday because we start cutting each morning as early as three o’clock in the morning. This means your sod is cut when the ground temperature the coolest preventing hot sod.
The largest of the three farms, North Branch also plays host of Central Turf Farms’ experimental site. Test plots are grown on our main farm to blend the best seed blend. New equipment is tried to grow, harvest and deliver the highest quality sod and service in the industry.
